We are excited to share our recent collaboration with the Museum of Science, Boston, on their inspiring Earthshot initiative! This innovative project showcases the most cutting-edge climate solutions of our time and their transformative impacts on how we live, move, eat, and work. We had the pleasure of discussing the initiative with the Museum team and learning more about their vision and experiences. Here's what they had to say:
1. Can you describe the main theme and key attractions of this new initiative?
The Earthshot initiative at the Museum of Science, Boston is a yearlong exploration of the most innovative climate solutions of our times and how they affect the ways we live, move, eat, and work. Through the Museum’s exhibits, programs, classroom products, and digital experiences, you’ll gain a renewed sense of optimism, see yourself as a champion of change, and feel confident in helping to build a greener, more equitable future for us all.
2. What inspired the creative direction and design for the marketing materials of the new initiative?
With this campaign, the Museum wanted to shine a light on the world’s climate concerns and engage the public in solutions-oriented discussions. Ultimately—as per our tagline—we wanted to prove that “hope is sustainable” by using imagery that evokes positive change versus alarmist negativity.
3. How did our collaboration help you achieve your vision?
The Museum of Science has partnered with Makepeace for over 15 years, and through every project, the team has proven to be a trusted source of signage expertise from file setup to final install. While we have been approached by numerous other print shops boasting large-scale graphics and signage services, we have a strong commitment to Makepeace because of their top-in-class work and consistently reliable customer service.
4. How did the collaboration process work between the marketing team and other departments in the museum to ensure the initiative’s success?
The Museum marketing team collaborates with our Public Safety and Facilities departments to ensure safe installation of the large-scale graphics on the façade of our lobby entrance. Thanks to the guidance by Makepeace, we were able to identify the correct lift equipment for our specific needs and to schedule a safe work area without causing a large disruption to our guests. While it was a lot of behind-the-scenes work to get to our launch date, the graphics went up seamlessly from the public’s perspective.
5. Can you talk about any special events or activities planned in conjunction with the Earthshot initiative to enhance visitor engagement?
We have hundreds of products, exhibits, and events associated with the Earthshot spotlight! We kicked off the year with the launch of our newest exhibit, “Changing Landscapes: An Immersive Journey,” which invites visitors on an unforgettable exploration of four UNESCO World Heritage Sites grappling with the challenges posed by our planet's evolving climate. Earlier this spring, we hosted a sustainable fashion show, and we’ve also installed a vertical farm on-site, which is growing produce that our visitors can eat in our café. And coming up this summer, we’re debuting two more exhibits: “Survival of the Slowest,” which offers visitors the opportunity to meet live animal ambassadors that are slow, small, or weak to learn how the use of these traits helps them survive and thrive in the wild; and “Innovation: Earth,” which explores the latest green technologies and natural climate regulation systems transforming transportation, food, housing, and energy systems.
